Reviews – A Love/Hate Relationship

You all know – Author’s live for reviews.

It’s no secret – no big surprise, hell, we’re begging for them every other minute. These days, if you buy something online, you probably don’t even have it yet before someone is sending you an e-mail asking for a review.

Sure, we all understand the principle. If there are a lot of positive reviews, that item will get more attention and more sales.

It’s the same for books.

If you’ve read or listened to a book, leave them a review.

Why?

Someone else will come along and leave one, right? That book was great – the author doesn’t need you.

Maybe – but truly, your reviews are our bread and butter. Not only that, they help us to grow and improve. What do you do if you didn’t like a book?

You feel bad about leaving a 2 or 3 star review – be honest. Why didn’t you like it? Is it just not your style? Tell other potential readers just that.

To be honest, I have personally purchased books because of a 1 star review. Seriously? It’s true, the reviewer gave a great explanation about the book and why it wasn’t for her. I understood why she didn’t like it, but since I like bossy asshole alphas, I knew it was just right for me.

You know what?

It was.

That negative review led me to finding one of my all time favorite authors, an author I’m so addicted to, I have read and/or listened to her books more times than I can count, all because of someone’s negative review.

So, why am I going on about this crap?

You know why – I’m asking you to leave reviews. Not just for me, but for any author you’ve read.

Feel daunted by the idea of trying to figure out what to write in the empty white box, cursor blilnking, taunting you? Yeah – I know what that feels like!

Here’s how to do it…

  1. Go back to the page where you bought the book.
  2. Click on some stars.
  3. Pretend you were talking to your best friend. What would you tell that person about the book you just read? {ex. I seriously loved this book. The characters clicked with me right off the bat, I was engaged from page one and had a serious book hangover when it was done. #MorePlease OR This book wasn’t for me. The writing was good, but I didn’t connect with the heroine, she really annoyed me when she sniffed like a snob all the time. There were some gramatical things that irritated me, but mostly, it was the female character, I just didn’t like her, or care what happened. I thought the hero could have done much better…i.e. me!}
  4. Did you know – you can review on GoodReads too, you can even review on other bookseller pages, even if you didn’t buy the book there.
  5. One last thing to consider – if you really liked a book and you’re not ashamed (more on this in a minute) share it on your social media platforms. Maybe it’s exactly the book your brother’s friend’s girlfriend is looking for!

Okay – wait – so what if I like some seriously kinky erotica, but I’m a church secretary, elementary school teacher, or a religious leader? I get that – I read stuff I won’t even admit to – but, you can leave a review anonomously.

On Amazon, the process to edit your profile name (psudeonym) has changed, here are the current directions.

  1. Click Accounts & Lists in the upper right corner of the screen
  2. Scross down and click on Profile which is on the left side in the Ordering and Shopping Preferences Box
  3. Click Edit Your Profile on the right side of the screen
  4. Your Public Name – change it to whatever you like. I’d suggest something neutral like “Book Lover” or “Great Reader” or whatever you like. Then your mama will never know how naughty you really are.

Hope that helps, my darlings! Now – get over there and REVIEW 🙂

Happy Reading,

Finally Mine Series – More Coming Quickly! Jump in NOW!!!

I’m having so much fun with these Makers of Peace MC guys from Finally Mine!

Right now, I’m writing the Fighting for Mine Series – which is Eric (Fetch) and Patricia Ann’s story. Love getting to spend more time with Chase and Ainsley from Finally Mine!

So – this picture is of ME! It was taken just a couple of years ago 🙂 Just kidding – I was about eight or nine and taken right there in the middle of where these books take place. Some of my very favorite childhood memories are from right there in Eastern Kentucky.

This is Eastern Kentucky, where Finally Mine is set.

Yes – this is me! Don’t notice the hair! Humidity is a BITCH!

Book 4 in the Finally Mine series is coming on Tuesday, August 7th, just a few more days! This is a series of 6 books that follows Chase and Ainsley through all the highs and lows that finally lead him out the other side.

Book 5 will release August 28th and Book 6, the final book in the series will release Septmber 11th. These books are already available on preorder – so no delays!!! No waiting a year for the next part after a terrifying cliffhanger.

After Finally Mine (Chase & Ainsley) I’ll share Already Mine (Justin & Julie) and let me tell you – those two are a handful! We’ll probably be hanging out in Eastern Kentucky for another year, I have plans for at least two more series with the Makers of Peace Motorcycle Club and their women.

I love these characters so much, this area of the world and can’t wait to share them all with you. It’s fun to be able to use some of my favorite memories in my stories. One day, I’ll write my memoirs 🙂 and admit how many of these scenes are true, or based on true events. Of course, I fictionalized them, the locations are mostly real, but fictionalized too, but a few things, like camping at Cave Run Lake are beloved memories from my own childhood.

Happy Reading!
